Dear Friends,

I hope that you’re doing well and enjoyed the holidays with your family and friends.I’m very excited to tell you about an opportunity I have this coming Spring Break to go on an humanitarian aid trip to Guatemala that I would like for you to partner with me through prayer and/or financially.

I am continually being blessed by God through what He’s doing in my life through Campus Crusade for Christ, the Christian fellowship I’m a part of on campus, to grow daily in my relationship with Christ. I’m currently a co-leader of a Freshmen Men’s Community Group, where the goal is to create a community in which the gospel is lived out as we are brought together to grow as God’s family. We will be going on this trip with LifeLines, which is the outdoors experiential learning ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.

A team of 12 students, my dad, and a staff family will be going down to Guatemala to participate in all the amazing things that God has already doing down there. We will have the opportunity to go visit and serve several places around Guatemala City, Guatemala. We will be going to La Limonada, a ghetto populated by 70K people who live in extreme poverty with no running water or electricity and lots of gang activity. We will also be helping to build a community center in the Guatemala City Dump, which is home to over 190 families who live among 500 tons of garbage. In addition to this, we will be visiting and doing activities with the inmates at the women’s prison, which is also home to more than 150,000 women who are incarcerated in Guatemala City. The majority of the trip will be serving the just under 500,000 orphans in Guatemala in the local Orphanages that we will be visiting.

Jesus came to love, serve, and ultimately die for us so that we could be free from life’s bondages. I am more than blessed by the grace that God’s shown me through the freedom He gave to me and would love to take the time to show God’s love and grace through serving others in Guatemala. I hope that you are as excited as I am about this trip and would think and pray about partnering with me as I prepare to go on this trip.

I have to raise $1800 which would go towards airfare, transportation in the country, lodging, food, and for use on our service project to go on this trip. This is a lot of money for me as a college student, and in addition to keeping me in your prayers, I would like to ask you to prayerfully consider supporting me with a donation of $25, $50, or $100.

All of us, when we are brought into the kingdom, in joyful gratitude for the grace of God, want to do great things for the kingdom. Having been rescued by His glorious grace, we want in turn to rescue others, to serve the body, to proclaim the Good News. God has called us to do just that. He calls out heroes who take the message to strange and foreign lands. He calls out pastors who feed the sheep. He calls out teachers, like my father, who explain to the broader body the fullness of the gospel. Some, however, He calls to suffer.

My wife, for this part of His story, is called to suffer. Her role right now is to do this great thing for the kingdom- to be Jesus to us, so that we might be Jesus to her. She is Jesus to us because as we serve her, we remember His promise, that serving the least of these is serving Him (Matthew 25). We, in turn, are Jesus to her, precisely because the church is His body. When we pray for her, she rests in Jesus’ arms. When we bring a meal, she tastes Jesus feeding her. When we dry her eyes, she feels Jesus wiping away her tears.

Hers is not an easy calling. It is, however, a great one. Being Jesus means walking the via dolorosa. How blessed I am to walk that road with her, and with Him.

“My son,” answered Macarius, “you remember our dear brother who died, and was buried a short time since? Go now to his grave, and tell him all the unkind things that you ever heard of him, and that we are glad he is dead, and thankful to be rid of him, for he was such a worry to us, and caused so much discomfort in the church. Go, my son, and say that, and hear what he will answer.”

The young man was surprised, and doubted whether he really understood: but Macarius only said, “Do as I bid you, my son, and come and tell me what our departed brother says.”

The young man did as he was commanded, and returned.
